All human beings interact with the world uniquely. The way our body functions is a reflection of our physical and psychological interaction with our environment. When we experience physical limitations, it is an indication of a disconnect or imbalance created by this psychosomatic interaction, inhibiting our potential and eventually leading to symptoms.
It is now known that psychological stress impacts our physiological wellbeing (i.e. causes muscle tension, clenching, poor breathing patterns, limited mobility etc.). Not so commonly known is that our body creates fixed physical patterns in response to a repeated stressor or trauma, even after they are no longer present. For example surgery, specialised sports, many hours in front of the computer, childhood emotional stress, daily feelings of overwhelm, dislike, fear, withdrawal, defeat, etc., lock certain muscular patterns while dissociating from others. They become our way of moving, feeling and knowing the world. This limits the flow of physical and mental adaptation to present situations, as disowned parts of ourself are no longer available for use, creating excess strain on our structure. Although manual treatment can offer temporary relief and may be an important part of the process, without regaining flexibility and variety in movement and mind to respond to our life situations, symptoms tend to reoccur or remain.
With the ROOTS TO SELF workshop we influence these mutually influencing psychosomatic elements with the use of embodied movement techniques which bring awareness to self limiting patterns and facilitate new options to create change. We begin within and expand out to the environment, where our body can interact, play and discover new pathways. These movements create neuromuscular changes that give the body more freedom, balance and opens up cognitive patterns to reclaim your inherent potential.
Nadia uses similar principles for her private treatments and movement training sessions.
